MEMI (매미) is a South Korean guitarist and singer-songwriter. She is known for solo releases under the name "MEMI" and for her work in Korean indie rock bands including 24Hours and Seoulmoon. She made her solo debut in May 2022 with the single "Hate U" and released her debut EP M3MI in December 2023, followed by her first solo show at CJ azit in Seoul. With over 463,000 followers on Instagram and over 477,300 followers on TikTok, MEMI has captured the attention of fans worldwide through her guitar content on social media, gaining recognition from artists like Fred Durst, Phoenix, Oli Sykes from Bring Me The Horizon, and Good Charlotte. She has played international showcases including SXSW 2024 in Austin, Texas, and festivals such as Incheon Pentaport Music Festival in South Korea, Big Sound Festival and Sydney Fringe Festival in Australia, Clockenflap in Hong Kong, and Fireball Festival in Taiwan. In interviews, MEMI describes starting guitar in her teens after getting pulled into 1990s–2000s rock, learning at a studio known for hosting metal guitarists where she was introduced to blues, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin. She's spoken about being focused on feel and identity rather than treating technique as the whole point. Her solo work reflects her connection to nu-metal and heavier riffs, with songwriting that draws from memory and personal experience.
